Modern Floors Help to Preserve History Archive

45.-The-Keep-300x200 Modern Floors Help to Preserve History ArchiveHer Majesty the Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, officially opened The Keep, a new £19m historical resource centre located near Falmer in East Sussex. Built by Kier Construction, The Keep is a major partnership project between East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Sussex and combines state-of-the-art storage for archives with excellent visitor facilities. It will eventually house over six miles of archives and resources dating back 900 years.

Over the past few months curators have been moving and installing thousands of items from the city and East Sussex, including around 350,000 items from the Royal Pavilion & Museums and archives from the University of Sussex which include the Mass Observation and Kipling Archives.

Ryebrook Resins epoxy resin seamless decorative flake floor finish was specified for each of the three storage floors.  Each floor was laid in a different colour to indicate the separate storage areas.

The decorative epoxy resin system was used as it provides a durable, dust free, anti-slip surface that is easy to clean.

Ryebrook Resins were awarded the contract to apply resin finishes to floors and vertical surfaces to the new £52 million Network Rail train care depot in Reading for Volker Fitzpatrick Limited.

The Reading train care depot is to be used to service and maintain both train engines and carriages which are driven into the shed from the main rail system and can service four passenger trains simultaneously .

Ryebrook Resins had previously worked for the main contractor Volker Fitzpatrick and fully fulfilled  their requirements on Quality Assurance, Health and Safety, training, supervision and management controls.

The project consisted of preparing and applying 900m2of Resdev Pumacoat  V water based epoxy resin pigmented coatings to the vertical pit walls and laying Ryegrip Rapid MMA multilayer resin floor screed to 6,500m2 of 40Nmm2 concrete.

Ryebrook Resins specified Ryegrip Rapid MMA resin floor screed due to the heavy duty engineering requirements of the client, the speed of application and the need to install a resin finish in all temperatures.

The Ryegrip Rapid flooring product is a hard wearing pigmented resin flooring system with a slip resistant profile designed to meet Network Rails technical requirement for abrasion and Health & Safety and environmental concerns.

Due to the highly trained and skilled flooring applicators used on the project, Ryebrook Resins were able to produce a consistant appearance throughout the entire 6,500m2 floor area.

The project was completed fully within Volker Fitzpatrick program and was handed over to Network Rail on time and within budget.
